Wahroonga is a timber suburb, and timber is what decides the job. The housing stock runs heavily to Federation, Arts and Crafts and interwar homes on large blocks — weatherboard, shingled gables, timber windows, deep verandahs with turned posts and detailed brackets. That's a lot of surface area, a lot of edges, and a lot of preparation. A Wahroonga exterior is not a rendered box; it's a hundred small jobs, and the finish comes down to how honestly they get done.

Two things make Wahroonga different from the rest of the North Shore. The first is the trees. Mature turpentine, blackbutt and angophora canopy most of the suburb, which is exactly why people live here — but heavily shaded southern and southeastern elevations are prone to mould, and it needs to be treated rather than washed off and painted over. Coating over live mould is a well-understood way to have it return through the new finish.

The second is age. On a home that's been repainted six or seven times across a century, the paint film builds up, cracks and lifts, and there's often lead-based paint underneath. It can't be dry-sanded out into the garden. Parts of Wahroonga also sit within heritage conservation areas under Ku-ring-gai's controls, which can affect colour and material choices — worth checking what applies to your property before you settle on a scheme.

Most Wahroonga homes are two-storey on sloping, well-planted blocks, which means access equipment on almost every exterior. We cost that into the quote upfront rather than discovering it on day one.
